Keeping Your Awning Clean

When your awning is installed professionally there should not be much for you to do other than enjoy it and experience your clientele enjoy it as well.

Most awnings are built with durability and longevity in mind. Over time, especially with cold and hot temperatures and debris from wind, snow, and rainstorms, you will need to perform a little bit of routine maintenance.

When we refer to routine maintenance, we are referencing cleaning.

On an occasional basis, you will want to remove any debris as well as clean the fabric material so that your awning not only remains in good condition but that it adds that aesthetic appeal to its attached structure.

Here are some ways for you to tackle cleaning of your awning:

Use water to rinse your awning. It is recommended that you thoroughly spray your awning at least once a year to remove the dust, dirt, and debris that accumulate.

If you find that your area is particularly dusty certain times of the year, you may need to rinse more frequently.

Wash with soap and water. After you’ve rinsed your awning, a good scrub is sometimes necessary.

Depending on whether your awning is metal or fabric, you will need to use a specific soap and brush.

Consult your awning provider for appropriate cleaning products. For metal awnings, you can use a brush with more stiff bristles than a fabric, where you would want to use a soft-bristled brush and mild soap.

Combat stains when needed with a simple solution of distilled white vinegar and water, or a cleaning solution that is used on ovens and cooktops for metal awnings.

For the fabric awning, you can soak stains with laundry cleaner.

With a little bit of cleaning, you can maintain a beautiful metal or fabric awning that will last for years to come.
